Default to Action

If you have ever been unsure and unable to make a decision, unable to push past the fear and uncertainty, lacking clarity… you may have allowed this to limit you and stop you from moving forward.

This is the formula for regret.

Surrendering to the lesser self.

What is life to you?

When some are confined in their own bodies, and cannot stand or take care of themselves; do you use what you have? Do you value and celebrate your capabilities?

It is easy to stay stuck in your mind, in default patterns of stress and reactionary thought… until life is literally over. People you love are no longer around, and the march of life and death continues whether you feel like getting in the game or not.

How do we get off the sidelines and off the bench? After all, there is no coach in charge of you. There are a few rules but the game is still confusing and full of drama and struggle and tests to challenge every aspect of your mind, body and character.

The game is in your head and in your heart, but it is also in everyone else and in all our interaction. The answer: it starts with a decision and an action. It continues only if you do.

The decision is different for all of us, but it is always the decision to be strong, to face fears, to forge the dream into reality, to create and design your life and honor your personal truth.

Of course, it is easier to act when we are already in motion; when we practice discipline and useful habits. Even many who are somewhat confined or restricted in their physical bodies have found the discipline and drive to establish an identity associated with action.

Like a veteran actor if we study our character which we are to play in order to assume that identity we should ask ourselves which traits this person has, how they walk and talk and what they do everyday… and then start to do that.

How about the identity of an athelete with the traits of training and getting strong, playing on a team, working hard for a competition? Or a warrior, sparring and survival training, weapons and tactics, vision and poise? If we are using our imagination, then why not a superhero?

Why not the person you know you can be and already are if you allowed yourself to believe it and live it?

The way to start to default to action is to decide who you want to be, what habits and traits you want to have and then move into one of them. As you likely notice, most of these identities revolve around training and working out. It is a shame if an able bodied person does not realize the potential and the strength within themselves that a basic workout routine could provide.

This is why it is important to reframe some ideas we have around exercise and to find movements and activities which we enjoy.

It is easiest to default to action when we like what we are doing!
